Moving to the other side of the world for a new job would be daunting for most people but not for aAron Pont.
He has relocated from New Zealand to England after landing his ‘perfect job’ at Sponge.
Pont has joined the award-winning elearning provider as a Learning Solutions Architect.
“I would describe myself as a creator, developer and inventor rolled into one,” said Pont. “My skill set and attitude fit well within the Sponge team and I hope to use my experience to help come up with fresh and innovative approaches to learning challenges.”
Australian-born Pont started his career in information technology before moving into adult education. He has specialised in the use of new technologies as a learning tool within the sector.
“When I heard about this new role at Sponge and researched the company’s values and ethos, I realised that I had found my perfect job,” said Pont. “It did not take me long to make the decision to move from New Zealand as it is a very exciting challenge.”
Within just three weeks of accepting the new job, Pont had moved with his wife Michelle and their two dogs to Plymouth where Sponge has its head office.
He said: “We’ve had a really warm welcome at Sponge and in Plymouth generally which is making it easy for us to settle in.
“I’m really interested in the history of piracy so living in a place with such a rich maritime heritage is a real bonus!”
Learning Solutions Architect is a new position at Sponge and will help to enhance the company’s reputation as a creator of absorbing and innovative custom-made elearning.
It is just one of more than 20 new jobs created by the company in 2014.
Last month, Sponge was named Elearning Development Company of the Year at the prestigious Elearning Awards.
