What will 2015 hold?
Posted on Dec 18, 2014
If you are interested in looking into the crystal ball for some predictions for 2015 then you are spoilt for choice.
It is the season for fortune-telling and you can find a trends list for almost any subject you care to mention.
Here are a few of the more amusing ones:
At this point you might expect to have our take on elearning trends for 2015 but rather than speculate we thought it would be much more helpful to concentrate on practicalities.
So here is a brief guide to some of the things Sponge will actually be getting up to in 2015:
Adapt is the world’s only open-source responsive elearning framework and was developed by Sponge in partnership with other industry leaders. Rather than creating multiple versions of an elearning module for a PC, tablet or smartphone, Adapt allows us to create one version that adapts intelligently to each device, saving both time and money - with no compromise on design. In 2015, we will be developing new functionality for Adapt including quiz and game templates which will allow us to create more bespoke multi-device learning solutions for our clients.
We have been using games in our elearning for some time now but it is fair to say that 2014 saw a surge of interest. In response, we staged a special webinar in October which took a look behind the scenes of creating game elearning. We anticipate more requests for games in 2015 as there is more publicity about their potential benefits. Part of our focus will be making sure games elements are an affordable option within workplace elearning.
Launch and Learn
This is Sponge’s cloud-based LMS which offers organisations a quick, easy and affordable SCORM-compliant platform. More than 50,000 learners in 124 countries are currently on Launch and Learn and in 2015 we will be enhancing the system. There will be improved learner metrics and greater functionality in terms of tracking and monitoring learner progress.
: Video has long been a staple for elearning but it is fair to say that the potential of interactivevideo has yet to be fully tapped into. For 2015, we will be helping to inform understanding of how it might be used within workplace training. Inside Learning Technologies & Skills magazine will be carrying an article on the subject by our Creative Director, Kate Pasterfield, in January. We are also hosting a free behind the scenes seminar at the Learning Technologies 2015 exhibition on creating elearning games using interactive video.
We’ve always done webinars but we plan to offer even more in 2015. Webinars are a great way to share ideas, case studies and best practice. We particularly value the opportunity to chat with participants – they always ask really thought-provoking questions! Some of the subjects we’re hoping to explore in our 2015 webinar programme include responsive elearning, interactive video, custom-made elearning and measuring success. To find out more follow us on Twitter @Sponge_UK or on LinkedIn where we will be releasing more details ahead of each event.
In 2014, we planted the seeds for a new professional development programme for Sponge staff. It’s called Sponge University (SU) and is designed to support the development, growth and effectiveness of our growing workforce. It will get underway in earnest in 2015 with the whole team able to use SU to develop existing skills, learn new ones and share best practice.
And while we’re thinking about 2015, we’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all Happy New Year from everyone at Sponge.
